General Discussion / Re: Ground Clearance
« on: December 28, 2017, 03:24:29 PM »
Like Mike said, research research research!  Tire size is going to give you the ground clearance.  If you have 225 or 235x75x15's you're looking just over 28" diameter.  If you go with 33" tires it's not giving you 5" additional clearance at the diff's but you're getting close.  Now before you buy a lift you have to decide whether you are willing to trim/cut into the fenders.  Once you figure that out now how much do you want to spend on a minimum of a 4 1/2" lift kit, inexpensive route Rough Country to more expensive BDS and Clayton and so on.  This is a quick Readers Digest version answer.   I can go into excruciating detail if you want to PM me.

Well that completely sucks about your WJ.  Any idea what they put in your tank?  Try to isolate what it did to your motor.  See if rebuild is an option.  I know you want to go with a stroker but good to keep all options open.  Obviously in addition to engine you have to look at everything from your gas cap to the fuel injection system.  I'm out on the Island so Goonies is the closest garage to me.  Maybe John at Goonies has a WJ or two to get parts?  He's very reasonable with his prices.  Alternative would be to go to a U-Pick auto yard, but they generally won't have a gas tank (if needed).  Try to find out what the contaminant was.

Have you made a decision yet?  I have an XJ too, comes down to application and how much you want to spend.  Yeah Warn are on the more expensive side but you know they're gonna work when you're in a jam.

Yeah, it was a great turnout.  Outside of an early drizzle the weather was very good.  The BBQ and raffle afterwards was exceptional!

If the skinny peddle is your friend (no names Geoff) bring spare parts!  All seriousness, brings spares and tools regardless.
